Rt. 46 Will Be Closed For Blasting Thursday Afternoon
Breaking: The blasting is part of work for a large road-widening project on Routes 46 and 3.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Part of Route 46 West will be closed Thursday afternoon for blasting as part of a massive road-widening project.
Blasting will occur at about 12:30 p.m. on Route 46 West just before the Notch Road Bridge in Woodland Park, the state Department of Transportation announced.
State Police will stop traffic on Route 46, in both directions, and on nearby roads for about 15 minutes beginning at 12:30 p.m. while blasting takes place, the DOT said.

Authorities will try and minimize the noise and impact of the one blast that is scheduled.
The blast is part of the $40.8 million project designed to improve Routes 3 and 46 and Valley and Rifle Camp roads interchanges. Work began in January 2016.

A two-way service road is being built, three traffic lights installed and two single-lane roundabouts near Route 46 West are being constructed in an effort to remove vehicles from Route 46. Work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
