More Than 1,500 Layoffs At 9 NJ Businesses Coming: Here's Where
The layoffs come as more stores and businesses have announced that they're closing their doors.

More than 1,500 layoffs are planned at nine New Jersey businesses as the state braces for more store closings and cutbacks in the coming months.
Pet stores, a health system and a beverage corporation were among the nine businesses that filed layoff notices with the state. All of the job losses will take place before May 31 (see list below).
The layoffs come as Petland Discounts announced that it's closing all 10 of its stores in New Jersey as well as others in the tri-state area. The closings come after the death of Neil Padron, the company's founder (see list of stores below).

Allied Beverage Company
- 71 layoffs by March 20 in Trenton
- 58 layoffs by March 20 in Mount Laurel
- Allied Beverage Group has been New Jersey's largest wine-and-spirits distributor and, according to its website, ranks among the 10 largest such distributors in the United States. It serves New Jersey's licensed package stores, restaurants, hotels, taverns and clubs.
Aqua Products
- 79 Layoffs by April 1 in Cedar Grove
- Aqua Products, according to its website, "revolutionized" the U.S. pool cleaning industry by introducing the first robotic pool cleaner in 1982.
Capital Health
- 103 layoffs by March 8 in Trenton
- Capital Health System is bringing in an outside security system, according to The Phladelphia Business Journal, which will lead to layoffs.
Conagra Brands, Inc.
- 308 layoffs by March 22 in Parsippany
- 196 layoffs by May 24 in Cherry Hill
- Hundreds of Conagra employees will be laid off as the company says it's closing its Parsippany and Cherry Hill offices. Read more...
Customer Engineering Services, LLC
- 35 layoffs in Edison by March 8
- Customer Engineering Services, LLC is a technology services and support organization that was founded in 2003, according to its website.
DSJ Holding, Inc. (f/k/a Bridgewater Wholesalers, Inc.)
- 133 layoffs in Bridgewater by March 31
- The company's website says it is currently seeking to resolve Japan's energy issues through efforts related to planning, development, sales, management and operations in the natural energy sector.
H. D. Smith, LLC
- 66 layoffs in Kearny by April 5
- The layoffs come after AmerisourceBergen Corporation announced that it has completed the acquisition of H. D. Smith, the largest independent wholesaler in the U.S., for $815 million in cash. The acquisition is designed to enhance and expand AmerisourceBergen’s strategic scale and strengthen the company’s support to community pharmacy, according to the company.

Siemens Demag Delaval Turbomachinery, Inc.
- 35 layoffs in Hamilton by March 29
- The layoffs come a year after the Siemens industrial steelworker plant in Hamilton announced that it was closing down in the near future, according to The Trentonian. “This difficult decision was made as a result of the downturn in the global energy market,” a Siemens spokesman said in an email to The Trentonian. “The reductions will occur in multiple phases and affect employees from Siemens’ Power Generation Services business and corporate functions.”
