Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Passaic Co: Damaging Winds, Flash Floods Possible

Strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are possible into Thursday evening, said forecasters.

PASSAIC CO., NJ — Thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and into the evening may provide relief from the high heat index values, but they bring a chance of hail, heavy rain, and damaging winds, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Passaic County until 8 p.m. Thursday. Strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are possible.

Passaic County is also under an excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. Friday, as "dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108" are possible during the daytime hours and into the evening.

"Oppressive heat and humidity will build into the region through Saturday," the NWS said.

Friday is also an "Air Quality Action Day" for ground-level ozone, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Ozone levels in the region "may approach or exceed unhealthy standards."
