ShopRite Rolls Out Organic, Fair Trade Produce Program

Inserra Supermarkets will showcase seasonal and imported products year-round.

WAYNE, NJ — ShopRite has rolled out its new Taste Me, Do Good organic and fairtrade produce program.

Inserra Supermarket's ShopRite stores, including Wayne's, will sell seasonal and imported organic products year-round. The program helps farmers in the United States and Latin America by focusing on biodynamic agriculture as a way of protecting the soil, water and the environment.

The program also guarantees fair pay and safe work for the people harvesting the foods, Inserra said in a press release.

Produce featured in the program will be displayed in specially-marked bins. Inserra is purchasing produce from small and medium-sized farms, cooperatives and rural workers.

"We are a family-owned business, and helping other families – from our customers to our vendors, growers and well beyond – is one of our core philosophies," said Lindsey Inserra, vice president of corporate retail health and wellness for the Mahwah-based Inserra. "This project does just that in its support of dedicated farmers, farmworkers and their families, and we are proud to be a part of it."
