Snow Passes Through Wayne, Schools Close, Upcoming Forecast Clear (Until Sunday)
The region received several inches of snow. Forecasters expect clear conditions before potential snow showers and sleet Sunday.
WAYNE, NJ — The brunt of the storm passed through the Wayne area overnight, prompting school closures and leaving the area with several inches of snow.
Forecasters expect mostly clear conditions through Saturday. But the chaotic week of winter weather could continue Sunday, with a chance of snow showers and sleet that may turn into rain that morning.
The National Weather Service has not yet reported snowfall totals for Passaic County. But here were the inch counts in the surrounding areas as of 10:30 a.m. Friday:

Morris County
- Rockaway: 3 inches, 7:15 a.m.
- Dover: 2 inches, 3:37 a.m.

- Fair Lawn: 5.4 inches, 7 a.m.
- Township of Washington: 4.7 inches, 7 a.m.
- Ridgewood: 4 inches, 5:55 a.m.
- Mahwah: 4 inches, 7 a.m.
The highest-reported snowfall totals primarily came from South Jersey, where parts of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties saw 6 inches. Union Township in Union County also received a half-foot of snow.
Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Wayne as of 10:30 a.m. Friday:
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
- Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 12. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. West wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
- Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
- Saturday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 23. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight.
- Sunday: A chance of snow showers and sleet before 9am, then a chance of sleet between 9am and 11am, then rain showers likely after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.
- Sunday night: A chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 8pm, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
The weather impacted several New Jersey schools, including the Wayne Township Public School District. Officials amended a 90-minute delay to a full snow day early Friday morning. The district has closed schools twice in three days, shuttering Wednesday amid icy road conditions.
As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, Wayne's traffic-advisory map only shows one closure: Fairfield Road from Demarest Drive to Fairfield Road, which officials have closed for road work. 511nj.org does not show any major accidents or delays on state roads and highways in the Wayne area.
