Swastika Graffiti An 'Affront To Our Community': Wayne Police

The symbol was spray-painted on the pavement of Audubon Parkway. It has since been covered, police said.

WAYNE, NJ — A swastika was spray-painted on the pavement of Audubon Parkway on Monday, according to Wayne police. The symbol has since been covered, but law enforcement called it an "affront to our community as a whole."

Police responded to the scene after reports of the vandalism were first reported on social media. Investigators and police supervisors responded to the scene after the vandalism was confirmed, and conducted a follow-up investigation which included photos and interviews with subjects.

The symbol was covered up "within a short time," police said.

Police haven't determined whether this vandalism targeted any particular victim, but aren't taking it lightly.

"We ask that anyone who witnesses or discovers evidence of a bias incident to report it to the Wayne Police Department directly," police said.

"Incidents of this nature are taken seriously by the Wayne Police Department and are responded to and handled in accordance with policies and directives established by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General."

An investigation into the matter is ongoing, police said.
