Three Minutes on a Park Bench with Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro from the Wayne Foot & Ankle Center
The Pediatric Specialist shares some tips for parents to help them protect their children's feet and why she enjoys working in Wayne.

Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro tells Patch a little about why she pursued a career in podiatry and her favorite things about working with her father.
P: What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I enjoy training for triathlons with my dad. Additionally, I enjoy skiing and spending time with my family/friends.

P: How are you involved in the community?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I am an active member of a local volunteer ambulance corps. I have been a member of the National Ski Patrol since I was 16 years old. In addition, I volunteer for multiple triathlons and running races.

P: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: You can achieve anything you set your mind to.
P: Where did you grow up?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I grew up in Ringwood NJ.
P: What is your favorite part of working in Wayne?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I grew up coming to my Dad’s office in Wayne so working here feels like home.
P: What type of deformities/conditions do I treat?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I treat all aspects of foot and ankle problems. I specialize in pediatric deformities to include clubfoot, vertical talus, flatfoot, just to name a few.
P: What made you want to pursue a career in podiatry?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: I chose to be a podiatrist for many reasons but my main reason was the ability to be part in all aspects of medicine including surgery, trauma, and dermatology. Additionally I enjoy making a difference in people’s daily living. Helping someone overcome a foot problem that was debilitating and helping them walk again is very gratifying.
P: What is your favorite part about working with your father? What is your least favorite aspect?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: My favorite part of working with my father is sharing knowledge. Both my father and I have different knowledge and we work very well sharing this information to better our patient’s care.My least favorite part of working with my father?- My father never lets me buy lunch.
P: You’re not the only person in this business. How do you distinguish yourself from the others?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: My extensive training distinguishes me from other physicians. I completed a three year residency in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction with Dr Guido LaPorta, a very well respected physician in the profession. I then decided to continue my training by moving to Baltimore for a one year fellowship at the International Center for Limb Lengthening. There I was mentored by some of the most well learned Orthopedics in the field of pediatric deformity correction and limb lengthening.
P: When should a parent seek your advise regarding their child’s feet?
Dr. Lindsey M. Calligaro: A few examples of when a parent should seek doctor’s consult are: if their child is greater than three years old and has a flat foot, if their child walks on his/her toes, if the child complains of cramping in his/her legs or asks to be carried often.
