Top National Running Back Kareem Walker Selects University Of Michigan

DePaul Catholic High School and Wayne native went to the school widely considered to be the favorite.

DePaul’ Catholic’s Kareem Walker, the number one-ranked high school running back in the country, has selected Michigan University to play collegiate football.

“Congratulations,” said MIchigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. ”I can’t tell you how excited we are at the University of Michigan.”

Walker announced his selection Thursday. He said it was not an easy decision to make and was up until 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning wrestling with the decision. Florida State University was his second choice.

Walker thanked Principal Kenneth Jennings, his strength and conditioning coaches, coaches, teachers, teammates, mother, and grandmother for all of their help and support.

“You made me the man I am today,” Walker said. “All of these people have taken the time to lead me and guide me through life.”

Walker, at 6 feet, 200 pounds, is ranked number 31 in ESPN’s Top 300. He was recruited by dozens of the nation’s elite football schools including Clemson, Alabama, and Auburn.

A leading sports website, 24/7sports.com reported there was a 73 percent chance Walker would sign with the Wolverines.
