Wayne Bicyclist Falls Off Cliff, Dies: Police

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, police said.

WAYNE, NJ — A township man lost control of his bicycle and fell off a cliff at Mills Reservation in Essex County Monday, authorities announced.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. in Mills Reservation, which is located in Cedar Grove and Montclair, the Essex County Sheriff's Office said.

The 49-year-old man was riding his mountain bike near the edge of the road when he lost control and fell onto a rocky ledge 20 feet below, authorities said.

The Newark Fire Department and an EMS unit recovered the man's body at about 11:25 a.m., the prosecutor's office said.

The victim's brother was riding with him at the time and notified authorities.

The victim's identity has not been released pending notification of other family members, police said.

Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura said it appears to have been an accident and no foul play is suspected.

Mills Reservation is maintained by the Essex County Park Commission. It has several jogging and walking trails.
