Wayne Cops Wrestle With Motorcyclist Trying To Flee On Route 23
Officer had to dive out of the way of motorcyclist.
Three Wayne police officers wrestled with a motorcyclist after he attempted to flee during a traffic stop on Route 23 Monday night, police said.
Officer Anthony Bailey was notified of a motorcyclist who was cutting vehicles off and driving between lanes, police said; Bailey saw the motorcycle drive on the shoulder of Route 23 North.
Bailey pulled his vehicle alongside the motorcycle at a red light at the Packanack Lake Road-Route 23 intersection and walked up to the motorcycle, police said.

The driver inched the motorcycle into the intersection and tried to flee when the light turned green; Bailey jumped away and the motorcycle’s foot peg the hit the police car, causing the driver, Bruce May, and passenger, Mia Illian Canedo to fall off, authorities said.
The motorcycle fell over and May and Canedo tried to turn it upright and flee, police said, when Bailey and two other officers struggled with May.

Canedo struggled with Officer Anne Shivas and two other officers, police said.
May was charged with eluding, simple assault, and resisting arrest with force and issued several motor vehicle summonses, including ones for reckless driving and driving with a revoked license.
May was placed on warrant complaints and transported to the Passaic County Jail, police said.
Canedo was charged with resisting arrest with force and had a $500 warrant out on her in Englewood. She was released on a summons complaint and turned over to the Englewood Police Department on the outstanding warrant.
