Wayne Council Elects Next President For 2024 Term
Township Council held a reorganizational meeting on New Year's Day.

WAYNE, NJ — During a special meeting on New Year's Day, the Wayne Township municipal council welcomed a new member and elected a council president to preside over meetings in 2024.
Outgoing president Franco Mazzei, who represented Wayne's Third Ward, did not run for his seat again this year. Republican Michael Fattal, who previously served on the Wayne Township school board, will represent that part of town in this upcoming term.
And on Monday, members selected at-large councilman Jason DeStefano to sit in the council president's chair. DeStefano said he was "truly humbled" and congratulated his fellow council members.

Mayor Christopher Vergano administered the oath of office to several council members at the meeting, and Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way (a Wayne resident) was also in attendance to swear in the lone Democrat on the council — Francine Ritter, in the 5th Ward.
Members also confirmed several board appointments, including Keith Heyman as the next Wayne First Aid and Safety Commissioner.
