Wayne Democrats Are Running Because Of 'Strong Values And Ideas'
Democratic president criticizes Republican primary as being nothing more than about ballot positioning.

To the editor:
Someone once made the observation that our Supreme Court is called supreme not because it is supreme but because it is last. The same may be said of speaking at our town council meetings. Their council members can address a topic that was brought up by a citizen and the citizen has no chance for a rebuttal. A public forum, as this online community newspaper is, is a more honest and fair venue to reach the public.
Councilman Joseph Scuralli took umbrage to my comment that Republicans in Wayne win because at present there is a larger number of registered Republicans than there are Democrats.

Does anyone really believe, as Mr. Scuralli, that the all Republican Wayne government exists because each Republican candidate was scrutinized by the voters? I don't believe so.
Look at the recent court battle just fought between the Vergano and Ryan campaigns. That entire battle was a fight over a preferred position on the ballot. It was not a contest of ideas. It did not address either of the candidates' histories or positions. Each campaign simply wanted the favored position on the Republican ballot because they knew that many voters simply vote the Republican line and their victory would be assured.

Our Wayne Democratic candidates are running, not because they are assured victory, but because of strong values and ideas. It will be nice if this year's voters consider the individual candidates and their vision for our community. When voters vote for a candidate independent of the party, democracy wins and Wayne wins.
