Wayne Doctor Loses Medical License Over Sexual Contact Charges

Dr. Leonard Joachim's career littered with complaints from female patients that he inappropriately touched and molested them.

A state panel revoked the medical license of a Wayne physician who admitted to criminal charges of having sexual contact with patients.

Dr. Leonard Joachim, 60, was ordered by the state Board of Medical Examiners to surrender his license, NorthJersey.com reported. He practiced internal medicine. Patients filed four complaints of sexual contact against Joachim since the mid 1990s.

Joachim was charged with improper sexual contact with a female patient in 2003, but a grand jury declined to indict him. The state medical board recommended his license be suspended for six months, but a state Appellate Court overturned the ruling.

In August 2010, he entered into a consent order with the state medical board, agreeing to a six-month probationary period and a full psychological evaluation.

Joachim pleaded guilty to sexual criminal conduct in 1995 after two women in their mid-20s accused him of molesting them during medical exams, NorthJersey.com reported. Joachim admitted he touched one of the women inappropriately, but said he was not guilty in the other case; he was sentenced to probation and ordered to have a chaperone present when examining female patients.
