Wayne Mall Security Guards Wrestle With Man High On Drugs, Police Said

WAYNE, N.J. — A man who struggled with security officers at the Willowbrook Mall was charged with robbery after police said he tried shoplifting clothes from Macy's, police said.
Three police officers were called to the store Tuesday night and found two security officers struggling with James P. Mauer II, 28, who was under the influence of drugs, said Detectives Capt. Laurence Martin.
Mauer had $300 in clothes with the security tags on them in his possession, police said.

The store security officers suffered cuts and scrapes from the scuffle; they declined medical treatment, Martin said.
Mauer, of Andover, from Andover, had three capped hypodermic needles and multiple empty bags of suspected heroin in his possession, police said.

Mauer was charged with robbery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of narcotics, Martin said. He was processed and released on summons complaints.
