Wayne Man Among 3 Charged With Attempted Murder After Stabbings: Prosecutor

Two people were hospitalized after a fight in Passaic, authorities said.

WAYNE, NJ — A Wayne man was among three charged with attempted murder after police responded to a fight Friday where two men were stabbed, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Richard Arriaga, of Wayne, and Sergio Xochiulacuamatz and Christian Martinez — both of Passaic — were charged with attempted murder (first-degree), conspiracy to commit aggravated assault (second-degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (third-degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (fourth-degree) and criminal mischief (fourth-degree).

Passaic police responded to a fight in progress at about 2:15 a.m. Friday around Van Buren Street and Lexington Avenue in Passaic, the prosecutor's office said. They found a 29-year-old Passaic man who sustained several non-fatal stab wounds. Officials took him to Saint Mary's General Hospital.

Shortly after, a 28-year-old Passaic man went to the hospital seeking treatment for several stab wounds.

Police determined both victims were injured during an incident that occurred around Van Buren Street and Lexington Avenue in Passaic. Xochiuilacuamatzi,
Arriaga and Martinez were arrested, and the state filed motions for pretrial detention of all three, which a judge will hear Wednesday.
