Wayne MVC Employee Tests Positive For Coronavirus
The Motor Vehicle Commission has closed the Wayne licensing center until July 28 after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.
WAYNE, NJ — The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission announced through their website that the Wayne licensing center will be closed until Tuesday, July 28.
In a Tuesday morning news release, the MVC confirmed the reason for the closure was due to an employee's positive coronavirus test results.
The MVC said the facility will be cleaned and sanitized, and employees exposed to their co-worker who tested positive will quarantine for two weeks.

This announcement comes after the commission was forced to close the location early on Monday.
"The health and safety of our customers and employees is our top priority," said Chief Administrator Sue Fulton. "We will monitor the situation at Wayne and work closely with health officials to reopen on July 28, once we have verified a safe and healthy environment for the public and MVC employees."

Prior to the early closing on Monday, multiple people reported on Twitter that the Wayne MVC location was plagued by the same long lines that have frustrated patrons since the MVC's reopening.
Registering a new vehicle in NJ is a toil and grind right now. I went to Lodi MVC two weeks ago and left immediately due overcapacity. Today I arrived at Wallington MVC and left due to overcapacity. I’m now at Wayne MVC and I’m probably 100-200th in line. #mvc #njmvc #dmv pic.twitter.com/Hg9KPWnRLp

Update: they didn’t open the Wayne MVC and told everyone to go home because an employee tested positive for Covid.

The Wayne licensing center was already facing an uphill battle, as days prior to the July 7 reopening, the MVC announced that construction at the Wayne location was causing "unusual" traffic volume in the area.
The MVC said traffic volume will remain high until about Aug. 1, and customers should "consider" going to Oakland, Paterson or Lodi for their license transactions.
Now, customers won't have a choice, at least for another week.
