Wayne Opens Testing Center As Township Surpasses 1K December COVID Cases

WAYNE, NJ — To help meet post-holiday testing demand, Wayne residents can get tested for free by appointment at the former Macy's. The center, which opens Monday, will remain active for two or three weeks, according to Mayor Christopher P. Vergano.
Vergano also announced Thursday that the township surpassed 1,000 COVID-19 cases — quadrupling November's reported total of 248 infections. The township hit 1,057 cases as of Thursday.
"It’s unfortunate we’re continuing to have the same conversation about COVID," Vergano said. "We’ve given over 17,000 vaccinations through the Township of Wayne Health Department. We thank the staff, and we thank all our volunteers that have assisted us, and we thank the first aid squad for being there to help us also."
