WAYNE, NJ — At the Primrose School of Wayne, teachers will ask students basic questions such as what does it mean to be generous, or what does it mean to be compassionate. The preschoolers got to show everyone this holiday season, gathering more than 100 toys with their families to donate to Toys for Tots.

Preschool and pre-K students at the 455 Primrose schools across the country participate in annual acts of kindness. Some schools collect nonperishable food items for local pantries, while others collect toys for local shelters and hospitals.

The Primrose School of Wayne accepted an offer to become a Toys for Tots dropoff station, accepting donations for about two weeks. The toys will benefit Operation Toy Train — a local nonprofit that collects Toys for Tots donations in the area and redistributes them.

Primrose School of Wayne Director Jill Milazzo credited their teachers for helping instill positive values in the students.

"The best way we teach about compassion and generosity — among other positive character traits like friendship, respect and honesty — is to explain what these traits are, why they’re important and then connect them back into the students’ personal lives," she said.
