Storm Prompts Delayed Opening Wednesday For Wayne Schools: UPDATE

The district also cancelled all after-school activities and ended extended day care after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

WAYNE, NJ — Wayne Township Schools will operate on a 90-minute delay on Wednesday, the district announced, as the community braces for more flooding.

And with a state of emergency beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the district will cancel some after-school activities and close extended day care early.

On Wednesday, buses will run on a 90-minute delay, as all buildings start an hour and a half late. Before care will not be held.

"Any announcement about WTPS school closing will be sent as early in the morning as possible," the district said.

The NWS estimates that Wayne Township will likely see between 2 and 3 inches of rain as the storm progresses into the evening and overnight hours, and wind gusts of up 50 miles per hour are possible.

The heaviest rain will fall from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday, with several rivers slated to experience “moderate to major flooding” across northern New Jersey and in the Philadelphia region, the National Weather Service said.

The school district put up a notice Tuesday morning that extended day care will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and all after-school activities are canceled after 5 p.m.
