Wayne Schools Receive $17K Safety Grant

District will use the money to purchase 23 portable security radios.

WAYNE, N.J. — The public school district received a $17,400 grant to purchase new security radios.

The New Jersey Schools Insurance Group, through its safety grant program, awarded the grant Sept. 8.

The radios will be used in each of the district's 14 schools and in the district's administrative offices.

The radios encrypt voice and data communications and allow group conversations.

The grant program provides funding for safety-related equipment and projects.

The SIG works to keep tax dollars in school classrooms with its grants. It will award $2.2 million in safety grants to districts this year. Since 2009 the group has awarded $21 million in safety grants.
