Wayne Students Assemble Bikes for Local Kids

The Wayne teachers union purchased 9 bicycles and helmets for local kids.

WAYNE, NJ — Township high school students continued a tradition of helping others this holiday season by assembling bicycles for local kids.

High-schoolers from the Automotive Technology Program put nine bicycles together for township children in need. The Wayne Education Association, the school district's teacher union, purchased the bikes.

Automotive program instructors Steve Hopper and Ken Bergen supervised students' work.

“The students get such a kick out of assembling the bikes knowing they are going to help out younger kids," Hopper said. "They look forward to doing this every year and take such pride in assembling them.”

Nurses at each of the district's nine elementary schools will give one student from each school a bike.
