Wayne Students Nominated For Presidential Award
President Lyndon B. Johnson established the program to honor some of the country's "most distinguished graduating high school seniors."
WAYNE, N.J. — Two Wayne high school seniors have been named candidates for one of the most prestigious honors students can receive.
Sarah Kuehn, who attends the The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, and Jacob L. Rantas, a Wayne Hills student, were named as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
Up to 161 students are named presidential scholars annually.

President Lyndon B. Johnson established the program in 1964 to honor some of the country's "most distinguished graduating high school seniors." The program was extended in 1979 to recognize students in the visual, creative and performing arts and against in 2015 to honor students attending technical high schools.
