Township: We Need to Conserve Water

Municipality has implemented restrictions on lawn, garden and other 'non-essential' watering.

During this past month there has been very limited rainfall and extremely hot weather. Continued hot and dry weather is predicted for the next few weeks. This has led to increased demands on the township water system.

According to a statement released Tuesday by the township, water usage during the summer months typically peaks at 11 million gallons per day. In the last week, the town has been averaging 13 million gallons per day. This is at the upper limit of the town's pumping capabilities.

The use of water for sprinkling lawns, shrubbery and gardens, and for other non-essential outdoor uses shall be restricted to certain days of the week based on the property address and the calendar day, the statement said.

If the property address is an even number, irrigation or sprinkling may take place on the even numbered calendar day. If the property address is an odd number, irrigation or sprinkling may take place on the odd numbered calendar day, the statement said.

For example, if the house address is 72 Jones Street, watering can be done on any of the even days of the month, such as the 2nd, 10th, and the 22nd.
