WAYNE, NJ — Welcome to the first edition of Wayne's Halloween Scare Tour 2021.

We've already begun assembling a list of the best, reader-submitted, Halloween setups locally, but there's still time to participate.

In addition to the spookiest of the spooky, we're also interested in kid-friendly, whimsical Halloween-decorated yards where little ones aren't likely to be chased by a maniac with a chainsaw.

If your yard is worth a drive-by this Halloween, shoot us an email. We'll keep adding to the 2021 tour o' haunted yards leading up to Halloween, which this year falls on a Sunday. (More on how to submit your home below.)

Now, without further ado, here are the first submissions:

Alien Invasion On Pitman

This display is located at 20 Pitman Pl., in Wayne, New Jersey, and will be up until Nov. 1.

All the aliens and spaceships are homemade, and, the best news yet, candy and treats will be handed out to all our visitors on Halloween.

Corpses Court

The graveyard at 16 Vernon Ct. in Wayne comes alive from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. nightly until the end of the month.

"Prepare to see you favorite spooky friends at this front yard cemetery. Get ready to meet Mr Clowny at the front door he's waiting with tricks or just candy sweet treats," writes the homeowner.

Any candy donations at this house will go toward Theunes Dey Elementary.

Beach Terrace

This display is located at 218 Beach Terrace, in Wayne.

How To Participate

We prefer that the homeowner submit his or her own yard, or at least an immediate neighbor or close relative. Please include the following information:

  • The exact address of the yard haunt, including the town.
  • Let us know the dates and hours when your display will be available for viewing, so people aren't ringing your doorbell or bothering your neighbors in the middle of the night.
  • Does your yard haunt have a name? Be sure to include it or we can help you make one up.
  • Tell us about any special effects, live actors, walk-throughs or other features that make your yard haunt special.
  • Does your display have a Facebook page or website? Be sure to include the links.
  • Are you collecting donations for a charity, food pantry or pet shelter? Let us know.
  • Include a phone number (not for publication) in case Patch needs to contact you.
  • Most important: what kind of Halloween candy are you passing out to trick-or-treaters?

Please don't submit a Halloween-decorated home you recall from five or 10 years ago. That person may no longer be decorating their house for Halloween, and we don't want people wasting gas.

IMPORTANT: By submitting a photo, you're giving Patch permission to publish it for this feature and future stories.
