These companies are saying 'thank you' to servicemen and servicewomen by giving them free or discounted meals.

Here are some of the restaurants offering veterans free food and drinks this Veterans Day, today.

Proof of service, i.e. a military ID or arriving in uniform, is required in most cases.

Applebee's: A choice of seven different free meals, plus a $5 coupon valid for a return visit from Nov. 12 to 27.

Buffalo Wild Wings: Free small order of wings and french fries.

Boston Market: Free brownie or cookie with any purchase.

California Pizza Kitchen: Get a complementary entree at participating CPK locations.

Charlie Brown's: Get a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chipotle: Buy one burrito, bowl, salad, or tacos and get another free from 3 p.m. until closing.

Friendly's: Free breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Hooters: Get a free entree. Choices include a 10-piece order of wings, burger, and buffalo chicken salad.

Houlihan's: Get a free entree, up to a $15 value, with the purchase of another entree.

IHOP: Get a free order of red, white, and blue pancakes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

LongHorn Steakhouse: Get a free dessert or appetizer and the entire table gets a 10 percent discount on the bill.

On the Border: Veterans may choose from a selection of free combo meals.

Red Lobster: Free appetizer or dessert.

Ruby Tuesday: Free appetizer, (up to $10)
