William Paterson Jazz Series Begins Today

Saxophonist Jimmy Heath will perform in the finale.

WAYNE, N.J. — The 23rd annual Summer Jazz Room Series kicks off at at William Paterson University today.

The weeklong series features a different performer each night. Legendary jazz saxophonist Jimmy Heath will perform Monday.

The performances are held in conjunction with a series of workshops, including classes, rehearsals, and performances from high school musicians.

Winard Harper and summer workshop faculty will kick off the series Monday. Pianist and blues singer Johnny O'Neal follows on Tuesday.

Vocalist Karrin Allyson and Cellist Erik Friedlander and his quarter Oscalpso and are on stage Wednesday and Thursday.

Health, trombonist Steve Davis, and the Heath Brothers quartet will end the festival Friday.

All performances will be in the Shea Center for the Performing Arts at 300 Pompton Road.

Tickets cost $10 a show, $40 for all five performances. For more information call 973-720-2371.
