William Paterson Professor Awarded $1.2M In Discrimination Case, Report Says

A William Paterson University professor was awarded $1.2 million in compensatory damages who alleged she was harassed and stripped of her position due to her religion and race, The Record reported.
althea Hylton-Lindsay was awarded $1 million for emotional distress, plus $195,000 in lost wages Wednesday, according to the report.
Hylton-Lindsay has been the head of the university's Department of Secondary and Middle School Education until she was removed from her post in December 2012, two years after Candace Burns became dean and her supervisor, the report said.

Hylton-Lindsay said that Burns harassed her, micromanaged her, and took away her responsibilities, and called campus security on her when she and another colleague were praying at her desk, according to the report.
The jury will continue to deliberate Thursday about whether Hylton-Lindsay is entitled to punitive damages, the report said.
