William Paterson University Receives $2M Grant To Support Urban School Leaders

Federal money will help develop leadership programs at several Paterson and Plainfield schools.

Wiliam Paterson University has received a $2 million federal grant to develop a leadership programs with several urban schools, including Paterson, the college announced Wednesday.

The university will use the money from the federal Department of Education to establish the Turnaround Partnerships-New Jersey project with Paterson School District officials at four Paterson public schools. William Paterson will also work with Kean University and Plainfield School District officials, and two Plainfield schools as part of the partnership.

The funds will support professional development for 56 principals, assistant principals, and teachers and fund 20 scholarships for Paterson and Plainfield teachers who want to earn a master’s degree.

“This grant is continued acknowledgment of the quality of our educational programs, the work of our faculty, and the ongoing relationships we have developed with our partners.” said Candace Burns, dean of William Paterson’s College of Education.
