Hills Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Two Wayne Hills High School athletes realized a dream recently when they signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports.

Alisha Gomez-Shah and Chris Cruz signed the letters last week with their parents by their side.

Gomez-Shah will fence at Northwestern University. A first-team All-State selection this year, she finished second in the saber competition at the state individual championships.

“They [Northwestern] really fit with me very well,” Gomez-Shah said of the university.

Gomez-Shah plans on majoring in biology. She would like to become a physical therapist one day.

Cruz will play lacrosse at Post University in Connecticut.

“It’s a nice small school, the coach is a really nice guy, and the courses seemed to fit,” said Cruz, who plans on majoring in legal studies.

Both athletes said Wayne Hills has prepared them well for the next chapter of the lives.

“The teachers here are very approachable,” Cruz said. “A lot of the teachers genuinely care about you and teach you how to make smart decisions.”
