Young Boys with Big Hearts Raise Over $1,000 to Benefit Wayne Animal Shelter

Second-graders Aiden Cannizzaro and Logan Keegan were determined to make a difference for animals without homes.

Two 7-year-old friends with big ambitions and even bigger hearts had a lemonade sale and donated over $1,000 to the Wayne Animal Shelter.

Aiden Cannizzaro raised and donated $100 to the Wayne Animal Shelter last year but when he felt like that wasn’t enough, he enlisted the help of his friend, Logan Keenan, and together they held made posters, advertised and even made a video that was put on Facebook. Their hard work seemed to have paid off since Aiden and Logan, both second graders from Wayne, raised $1,093.40 to benefit the Wayne Animal Shelter on August 23.

“The animals live in cages with no family to love them and take care of them. I wanted to give money to help take care of them because they can’t take care of themselves,” Aiden said.

The boys offered freshly squeezed lemonade, munchkins and homemade cookies and didn’t charge a set price, but asked for donations instead. Aiden also donated an additional $100 and his parents matched what he and Logan raised. Family and friends also supported the duo by donating money.

Aiden’s mom, Melissa, said “While the amount they raised was impressive, I feel it is more about acknowledging their efforts and caring hearts.”

Wayne Animal Shelter acknowledged the boys donated an impressive sum, but couldn't comment at the time.
