Young Entrepreneurs Found a Real 'Sweet' Calling
Sisters Bianca and Angelica Fattal's cake balls are huge hit.
Angelica and Bianca Fattal have become something of confectionary celebrities with their business Sweet Jane Lynn.
The Wayne residents, who always enjoyed baking for friends and family, made a name for themselves with their cake balls – which are cake, rolled into balls and dipped into chocolate and decorated with drizzled chocolates, edible pearls, or sugar.
Hobby turns into a business

“Making cake balls was just a hobby, while we were looking for jobs after college,” said Angelica, a 2009 Rutgers graduate who studied Communications, as did her sister. “A friend sent us a recipe one day for them, and we tried them out.”
The rest is history. After experimenting with different flavors, they brought the treats to birthday parties and gave them as gifts. They received phone calls from family and friends asking them for more of the little sweet treats.

The twins received a few job offers, but Bianca said that making cake balls just “felt right.”
The business’s name comes from each of the twins’ middle names.
“We said, ‘let’s see what we can do’,” Angelica said, “and it’s been a wonderful ride since. It’s amazing to do something you are passionate about.”
Labor of love
The twins work out of their father Edmond’s bakery kitchen whenever he isn’t using it.
Bianca and Angelica’s mother Maribeth, pitches in as often as she can, washing dishes, taste testing, and helping them experiment with new ideas.
“The girls bake so often that a lot of times they comes up with their own recipes without looking at anything,” Maribeth said.
The twins spend their days decorating, rolling, and making each cake ball by hand from scratch. Though local grocery stores have offered to feature their desserts they kindly refuse the offers.
“There’s something special about getting a product from someone you know made it from scratch,” Angelica said. “We want people to know they’re getting them fresh from us. There’s something special about that.”
Pop Rocks and pretzels
The cake balls range from conventional favorites like red velvet and carrot to adventurous pink lemonade and Tennessee Whiskey. The flavors are true to the real thing. A blueberry pancake cake ball tastes like the real thing, but without being too sweet or overpowering.
Some of the flavors are nostalgic, like Pop Rocks cake balls with white cake and white chocolate, coated in the retro candy favorite, while others are simple and balanced, like the sweet ‘n’ salty, with butterscotch cake and milk chocolate icing that’s covered and crushed pretzels.
One of their seasonal favorites is a brown sugar cake ball, which pays homage to sweet potato casserole. For Halloween, they made a Snickers cake ball. They’re working on a few holiday varieties too. Rather than try to reinvent the wheel, their inspiration comes from practical, everyday foods.
Giving back
The twins have found a way to help others with their business. Their grandmother died from Alzheimer’s disease and a portion of the sales of each Oatmeal Raisin cake ball is donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. The girls want to donate to other charities in the future.
“It’s our social responsibility to help out as much as we can,” Bianca said.
