WEST WINDSOR, NJ — Theater to Go brings "Seussical: The Musical" to the Kelsey Theatre on the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College for a two-weekend run June 5-14, offering families and audiences of all ages a chance to catch one of the most-performed musicals in America making its Kelsey Theatre debut.
The show weaves together beloved Dr. Seuss characters and stories into a single musical narrative. The Cat in the Hat serves as storyteller, guiding audiences through the tale of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a microscopic world on a speck of dust inhabited by the Whos — including JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many "thinks." While working to protect the Whos, Horton also finds himself caring for an abandoned egg left behind by Mayzie La Bird, all while the loyal Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Themes of friendship, loyalty, family and community carry the story to its triumphant conclusion.
"Seussical" has played on Broadway, Off Broadway, U.S. national tours and London's West End. The production is directed by Haley Schmalbach, with musical direction by Sue den Outer, and produced by Ruth Markoe. The cast includes Erin Looney, Lorena Buena-Looney, Patrick O'Leary, Lucinda Fisher, Sydney Broitman, Jaylen Stanley, A'Maziin Williams and a full ensemble of more than two dozen performers.
Performances are Fridays, June 5 and June 12, at 8 p.m., and Saturdays, June 6 and June 13, and Sundays, June 7 and June 14, at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located at 1200 Old Trenton Road on the Mercer County Community College West Windsor Campus.
Tickets are $26 for adults and $24 for seniors and students, available at kelseytheatre.org or by calling the box office at (609) 570-3333, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon. The theater is wheelchair accessible with free parking adjacent to the venue.
