WEST WINDSOR, NJ — West Windsor Township will hold a paper shred event Saturday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works facility, 70 Southfield Road, giving residents a chance to securely dispose of confidential documents.

Papers should be limited to confidential and sensitive materials only — documents with Social Security numbers, account numbers, confidential passwords, medical information, financial records and other personal documents that could be used for identity theft.

Residents do not need to remove paper clips, staples or rubber bands, but heavy metal-backed binder clips and three-ring binders must be removed. Magazines, books, newspapers, junk mail, online catalogs, coupon circulars and travel guides are not accepted and can instead go in curbside recycling bins. Photos, X-rays, CDs, VHS tapes and plastic credit cards are also prohibited.

There is a limit of eight boxes per household, with a maximum of 20 pounds each. Paper must be in a liftable, manageable container — no plastic bags — and boxes, crates or other sturdy containers will be returned.

The event will also feature a food drive benefiting Send Hunger Packing WW-P and The Little Free Pantry, local programs of Mercer Street Friends that address food insecurity. Shelf-stable items most in need include cereals in individual bowls or small boxes, oatmeal, rice, dried beans, canned or microwavable soup bowls, canned tuna packets, packaged dried fruits, microwave bowl meals or vegetarian equivalents. Grocery store cards are also welcome. No glass items.
