Harmful Algae Bloom Found In Grovers Mill Pond

WEST WINDSOR, NJ — A harmful algae bloom (HAB) has been confirmed at Grover's Mill Pond in West Windsor, prompting a public health advisory from local and state officials.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection identified the bloom on July 10 after water samples showed algae cell counts exceeding the state's Health Advisory Guidance Levels.

Officials emphasized that the findings relate only to the algae bloom and do not reflect the pond's overall water quality.

The West Windsor Township Health Department has posted advisory signs at public access points around the pond. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid swimming or other direct contact with the water, use caution during non-contact recreational activities such as boating, keep pets and livestock from drinking the water, and avoid eating fish caught in the pond.

Exposure to the affected water may cause allergic reactions, including skin rashes, eye irritation, and respiratory irritation.

The advisory will remain in effect until follow-up testing confirms algae levels have dropped below New Jersey's action thresholds.
