New Jersey Storytelling Festival Coming To West Windsor

WEST WINDSOR, NJ — Storytellers from across New Jersey are heading to West Windsor this weekend for a day of stories and community at the historic Schenck Farmstead.

The New Jersey Storytelling Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the historic Schenck Farmstead, 50 Southfield Road, built circa 1758.

The festival opens with a “Join In” Story Swap at 11:15 a.m., when participants can put their names in a hat for a chance to tell a five-minute story on the theme of fireworks. Starting at noon, more than 20 storytellers will share stories in the barn, on the porch and on the lawn. The day concludes with the “LighTENing Round” at 3 p.m., featuring stories limited to two and a half minutes.

The annual festival brings together community members and educators for what the Historical Society of West Windsor calls “a day of stories, community, and connections for all ages.”

Several storytellers are scheduled to take part throughout the day, with each getting roughly 40 minutes to share their stories. Rather than following one set program from beginning to end, visitors can decide which storytellers they would like to hear and move around the farmstead between sessions, giving them a chance to experience different voices and stories during the festival.

The event is free to attend, although donations are appreciated, and walk-ins are welcome. The festival will take place rain or shine.
