West Windsor To Hold 25th-Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

WEST WINDSOR, NJ — West Windsor Township will hold a special 25th-anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. to honor the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will take place at the Twin Ponds 9/11 Memorial in the Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum, located at the intersection of Clarksville Road and Route 571. The event will include the rededication of West Windsor’s memorial and the unveiling of a new addition to the site, funded by American Legion Princeton Post 76.

As part of the tribute, 2,983 flags will be planted in honor of every individual who lost their lives in the attacks. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South students will assist with placing the flags.

Originally dedicated on April 27, 2002, Twin Ponds holds a unique place in New Jersey history as the state’s first permanent September 11 memorial. The memorial was created through a community-led effort following the attacks, including the Friends of West Windsor Open Space.

Designed as a place for quiet reflection, the memorial features two connected reflecting pools, a handmade bridge and a waterfall. A steel beam recovered from Ground Zero was added to the site in 2011.

West Windsor Township, Mayor and Township Council members invite residents to gather to honor those who were lost and witness the expansion of the memorial. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
