West Windsor Residents Urged To Prepare For Severe Weather In Area: What To Know

WEST WINDSOR, NJ — West Windsor Volunteer Fire Department is advising residents to prepare for the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding.

Officials encourage residents to make storm preparations before severe weather arrives. Drivers are reminded to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways, as even a small amount of moving water can sweep away a vehicle or conceal washed-out pavement.

Residents should also seek shelter immediately if thunder is heard, as lightning can strike from miles away. Emergency officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including Wireless Emergency Alerts, weather apps, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news sources, rather than relying solely on social media.

Additional safety tips include securing outdoor furniture and loose objects that could become airborne in strong winds and staying away from downed power lines, which should always be treated as energized.

Any hazardous power lines should be reported to the utility company or by calling 911 if there is an immediate danger.

The National Weather Service encourages everyone to remain weather-aware throughout the day and monitor forecasts and warnings as conditions can change rapidly.
