$6.8M Construction Project Begins In Gloucester County
A long-awaited project to improve traffic at a Monroe Township intersection will last until September, county officials said.

MONROE TWP., NJ — A months-long, multi-million dollar project to improve an intersection in Monroe Township has begun, commissioners said.
The county contracted R.E. Pierson Construction Company for the work at Glassboro Road (U.S. 322) and Fries Mill Road (C.R. 655), said Commissioner Deputy Director Heather Simmons. Construction began Jan. 30, with an estimated completion date of mid-September. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some evening work required, said officials.
The construction contract is for $6,768,850.22, commissioners said.

According to Simmons, new turn lanes and through lanes will address congestion throughout the intersection. The project also consists of road widening for the new lanes, drainage improvements, traffic signal improvements, ADA curb ramp installation and roadway resurfacing. Crews will also be relocating utilities during construction, Simmons said.
“Critical funding from the state is what keeps our roads some of the best in the southern part of the state,” said Simmons. “Crews will be able to get the job done by utilizing lane shifts. Alternative traffic routes or closures will be utilized when required.”
