At around 11:40 p.m., authorities conducted a vehicle stop in the area of the Nia Amity Heights Apartment Complex.
The driver got out and began to flee on foot, leaving the vehicle to crash into a dumpster.
Police then saw that the man had a gun.
While trying to escape, he threw the gun and suspected crack cocaine.
The man was then apprehended by police without conflict.
Officials recovered the gun, which was defaced, and had a high-capacity magazine with tracer rounds.
The vehicle was towed and may be subject to a criminal search warrant, authorities added.
