WOODSTOWN, NJ — A 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after he shot his aunt dead in her apartment, the Salem County Prosecutor's Office said.
Leroy Martin, Jr., of Woodstown, was charged with murder, criminal restraint, and other weapons offenses in the death of 59-year-old Jacqueline Martin on Saturday.
At around 5:30 p.m., Woodstown Police officers responded to 51 B Lee St. for a well-being check. They found Jacqueline dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
It was determined that Leroy and Jacqueline lived together and had been fighting immediately before the shooting.
It is unclear what the dispute was over.
Leroy then left the apartment complex in Jacqueline's car moments after the shooting. Her car was found in Camden on Sunday.
Leroy had been traveling through parts of Salem, Gloucester, Camden, and potentially Cumberland Counties while he tried to escape, officials added.
He was found with a gun and arrested in Camden without conflict.
Martin, Jr. will be at the Salem County Correctional Facility awaiting court proceedings.
