MALAGA, NJ — A 23-year-old probationary firefighter died on Friday after crashing while responding to a fire in June, the Malaga Fire Company said.

He had to be extricated from his vehicle, and he was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital with "severe traumatic injuries," authorities said.

Reider ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on Friday about 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

"His service and dedication will never be forgotten," the department said.

Reider joined the fire company as a junior firefighter in 2018 at 16 years old and had been a member ever since.

He finished the Salem County Fire Academy program in 2022.

Following his death, Reider's fellow firefighters are remembering his heart and passion to help others as "one of a kind."
