Firefighters Rescue Toddler From Roof Of Burning Home In South Jersey, Officials Say

MILLVILLE, NJ — A toddler was saved from the roof of a home that was on fire Sunday, the Millville Fire Department said.

At around 4 a.m., crews responded to Dorset Avenue for a report of people who were trapped inside a building that caught fire.

The situation was upgraded to a "working fire box" and other departments, including Vineland and Bridgeton, were called in for assistance.

Millville fire officials were first on scene and saved a toddler who was on the roof at the back of the house.

Another resident was removed from a second-floor window at the back side of the home.

Both of those who were trapped were attended to by EMS and then taken to Inspira Medical Center.

Additional crews arrived and brought the fire quickly under control, authorities said.

The cause of the fire and its origin are yet to be determined.

The Department reminded residents to routinely check smoke detectors and close bedroom doors while sleeping.
