VINELAND, NJ — A Pennsylvania man died Saturday after his SUV was hit by a Tesla on Route 55 in Vineland, New Jersey State Police said.
Phillip Eastman, 68, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, suffered fatal injuries in the crash that was reported at 8:31 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Caitlin Brennan said.
The Tesla was headed south on Route 55 when the driver lost control of the vehicle near milepost 34.6 and ran off the road to the left, crossed the grass median, hit a tree and then went into Route 55 northbound, Brennan said.
When the Tesla entered the northbound lanes it hit the Chevrolet SUV, killing Eastman and injuring his passenger, she said.
The driver of the Tesla, who was not identified, also was injured. Both the Tesla driver and Eastman's passenger were taken to an area hospital for treatment of what police said were moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, Brennan said.
