DEPTFORD, NJ — A family returned from vacation to a home that was completely destroyed in the Oak Valley area of the township after flames engulfed the building on Saturday.
"The family has lost nearly everything and is facing an incredibly difficult time," the Woodbury Fire Department added.
At around 12:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a special call mutual aid request for an all-hands house fire at 575 Allegheny Road.
Officials with Ladder 5 aided in ventilation, primary and secondary searches of the property, and fire suppression.
The flames were brought under control at around 12:52 a.m., authorities added.
The family, which includes a child, was not home when the flames broke out. No injuries to fire officials were reported.
"We just worked really hard to get to a point where we were providing our daughter stability," owner Cori Konopka told ABC News. "The worst fear you could have when you go away to have a good time and be on vacation, you come back and some crazy life-changing event has happened and you're just helpless."
Two dogs and a cat were also safely rescued by a police officer neighbor.
An online fundraiser was started by a friend of the family in the aftermath of the destruction.
Support will go towards clothing, food, toiletries, temporary living arrangements, items for their pets, and replacing items from the home, friend of the family Ashley Brashear said.
"If you can't give, your share can help reach someone who can," Woodbury fire officials said. "Please take a moment to share and help us support this family in their time of need."
