Fake Police Officers Calling Residents Around South Jersey, Authorities Say

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — Scammers are pretending to be Gloucester County law enforcement personnel in order to get money from residents, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office said.

The fraudsters are calling people on the phone and asking for different forms of payment.

Officials reminded the public that the Sheriff's Office won't ever ask for payment over the phone, and banking information, Social Security numbers, gift cards, or payment app funds should never be shared.

Residents should also never agree to meet in person.

The phone number may appear as the actual Sheriff's Office contact and use real officers' names and ranks.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should contact (856) 384-4600 to verify its credibility.
