BRIDGETON, NJ — A three-year-old boy shot himself in the face on Thursday, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office said.
At around 3 a.m., officers responded to a home along East Avenue for a report that a child shot himself.
The boy's father, Moses Anthony Molina Sr., 32, of Bridgeton, and mother were asleep in a bedroom when the sound of a shot woke them up.
Molina admitted to leaving three guns unattended and unsecured in a room. The boy was able to get to the gun in a satchel on the floor and accidentally pulled the trigger.
He was left with wounds to the left side of his face and neck area, according to court records.
When police arrived, Molina had already taken the boy to the emergency room. Inside the house, they found a black handgun on the floor with an empty shell casing and a small bloodstain nearby.
The boy was taken from a local emergency room to Cooper University Hospital and was in stable condition, authorities said.
Molina was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to reach out via the Prosecutor's Office tipline, through which submissions can stay anonymous, authorities added.
