Now it’s time for the Broad Street eatery to take it to the next level with the acquisition of Executive Chef, Joe Polutro, an award-winning Executive Chef with over 25 years of experience.
“Chef Joe combines the best of both food worlds,” said Frank Filipek, Jr., Marlene Mangia Bene’s Managing Partner. “He learned to cook in his grandmother’s South Philly kitchen creating a reputation for stellar food in dining establishments over the past 25 years. We are happy and proud to bring him here to South Jersey so our customers can experience his artistry.”

As a pioneer in the gourmet mobile food truck industry, Chef Joe launched several local mobile catering businesses throughout the Philadelphia area including one of the largest serving the Philadelphia Airport. This led to creating restaurants in Philly such as Mio Sogno, featuring New World Italian cuisine which was Zagat rated “excellent” for five years including voted “Top 1,000” Italian Restaurant in the country by Buona Italia Zagat. He then built Rare Italian Steakhouse, a unique blend of steaks, chops and Italian fare, from the ground up.
His passion for cooking led him to begin teaching at Viking Cooking School in Bryn Mawr and as a top chef in Philly appearing at Cook By Audrey Claire in Rittenhouse Square. His desire to give back directed him to teach cooking techniques to low-income individuals with diverse backgrounds at Keystone-Mercy Healthcare in Philadelphia. In addition, he has been featured in numerous local publications including Philadelphia Daily News, City Paper, Philadelphia Style Magazine, Where Magazine, Metro Newspaper among others. Chef Joe has also made frequent appearances on Fox Morning Show and Food Network working with noted Iron Chef, Michael Simon.
“Chef Joe will be designing a new menu for us that will combine the best of our classics with new, innovative dishes from a world class expert,” Filipek said.
