Knife Attack Causes Driver To Hit Bicyclist In South Jersey, Authorities Say

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 56-year-old man riding a bicycle was arrested after he attacked a driver with a knife on Sunday, the Washington Township Police Department said.

William H. Greene, 56, of Washington Township, was charged with third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, and third-degree terroristic threats/threat to commit a crime.

At around 10:50 a.m., officers responded to the area of Wilson Road and Bryant Road for a report of a car crash involving a bicyclist.

They learned that the collision was a result of a road rage case between both parties.

According to the driver of a Tesla, the altercation began after Greene threw something at the side of his car.

The driver said he stopped and rolled down his window to ask him about what he did.

At this time, Greene became more aggressive and started yelling profanities as he went towards the driver's side of the Tesla.

He then took out a knife and lunged toward the driver, officials said, with his hand and knife through the open window.

In a move for safety, the driver tried to leave and hit Greene, who was then knocked to the ground.

A witness who watched the fight confirmed that Greene went up to the Tesla, spit on it, and then took part in an escalated confrontation before the Tesla drove away.

Police were able to confiscate a pocketknife as evidence that matched the description given by the driver.

Greene was arrested and taken to the Salem County Jail.

Anyone who may have been a witness, believes they had a similar situation with Greene, or has other information is asked to contact (856) 589-0330.
