Black Bear Sighted In West Depford: Police
A bear that has been making its way through Gloucester County has been spotted in West Deptford, police said Monday morning.
WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — A black bear that has recently been spotted in Gloucester County has made its way to West Deptford, police said Monday morning. It poses no danger and does not need to be trapped and relocated, according to West Deptford police.
"We ask everyone to simply stay inside if the bear is in your area," police said early Monday afternoon. "Securing trash and bird feeders will assist with moving it along. The people walking into the neighborhoods to see it are only going to scare or disturb the bear. Nobody intends on harming the bear in any way. We want our residents and the bear to be safe. Stay inside and use some common sense."
It was spotted in the area of West Deptford Park/Mid-Atlantic Industrial Park before moving on to the high school, according to police. Residents should not approach or agitate the bear, and should call 911 if they see it.
