Have We Become Too Complacent?
Have we become too complacent with childhood diseases?
Along with dealing with the controversy of whether or not to vaccinate our children, have we become too complacent regarding this issue?
Most people take for granted that their children will not have to deal with the childhood illnesses that were rampant 100 years ago. We have come a long way with the development of vaccines. Parents no longer fear the horrible cough of a child with whooping cough or the paralysis that follows polio.
Because of the many loopholes, an increasing number of children are not being vaccinated. And there are small clusters of outbreaks in the U.S. of these childhood diseases. If we continue to not vaccinate, there is the possibility that there will be more outbreaks and more serious outcomes.
